The UAE has broadened its Golden Visa program, introducing five new categories to attract professionals from various fields, including nurses, teachers, digital creators, e-sports experts, and luxury yacht owners. These visa holders are granted a 10-year residency, promoting long-term stability and contributing to the nation’s economic growth.
Launched in 2019, the Golden Visa program initially aimed to attract individuals who could contribute to the UAE’s economy and knowledge-based sectors. The recent expansion, announced in May 2025, seeks to bolster the UAE’s reputation as a global hub for innovation, offering a pathway to residency without the need for employer sponsorship and with family sponsorship options.
The new categories include:
Long-term Service Nurses: Recognizing the critical role of nurses in healthcare, the program offers a 10-year visa for those with over 15 years of service.
Teachers and Educators: This category targets private school teachers, principals, and university staff, supporting the UAE’s ambition to elevate its education rankings globally.
Content Creators: Aimed at filmmakers and influencers, the visa allows for long-term residency, providing opportunities for digital nomads.
E-Sports and Gaming Professionals: Aimed at professionals in the booming gaming industry, this category supports Dubai’s role as a center for e-sports events.
Luxury Yacht Owners: This category targets yacht owners and industry executives, boosting Abu Dhabi’s maritime tourism.
This initiative aligns with the UAE’s Vision 2030, which focuses on diversifying the economy by attracting skilled professionals. The program also addresses the challenges posed by brain drain and aims to keep talented individuals in the country. The Golden Visa is already seen as competitive with other programs, such as Canada’s Express Entry and Australia’s Skilled Migration, offering longer residency periods and fewer restrictions.
By providing long-term residency, the UAE is positioning itself as an attractive destination for top talent in healthcare, education, digital innovation, and luxury tourism.
