Zimbabwe has introduced a new online visa system, allowing travelers from visa-required countries to apply for their visas electronically, replacing the previous paper-based method. This move is part of an expansion of the Online Border Management System (OBMS), which was first launched last year to streamline immigration processes.
The updated system now includes e-visas, e-permits, and other essential services, making it easier for people to apply for visas, residence, and work permits, as well as complete travel clearances online.
Chief Immigration Officer Respect Gono explained that the new e-visa system eliminates the need to send paper applications through the mail or visit consular offices, making the process more convenient and less costly. She noted that the e-visa platform provides several benefits, such as reduced paperwork and faster processing.
The e-permit system has also been introduced for individuals planning to stay in Zimbabwe for longer periods. While the platform is still being expanded, modules for temporary employment and investor residence permits are already operational, and additional permits are expected to be available soon.
This digital shift aims to simplify the visa application process for foreign visitors, improving efficiency and accessibility for those seeking to travel, work, or reside in Zimbabwe.
