Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul (PUCRS) has officially opened applications for its academic mobility program, offering students the opportunity to study abroad in the second half of 2025. The program currently features more than 150 available spots across 19 countries, including Canada, Japan, Sweden, the United States, and Chile. The first application deadline is February 7, with a second deadline on March 21.
This program is available to all undergraduate students enrolled in on-campus courses at PUCRS. Participating students may choose a partner university of their interest and study abroad for one semester, with the option to extend their stay. Credits earned at the host institution can be transferred to their PUCRS degree. While tuition fees at the host university are waived, students are required to maintain contact with PUCRS throughout the mobility period.
The academic mobility initiative partners with prestigious universities worldwide, providing students with a unique opportunity to broaden their academic experience and immerse themselves in new cultures. Among the destination options are highly regarded institutions such as Uppsala University in Sweden, Newcastle University in the United Kingdom, the University of Coimbra in Portugal, and Sciences Po Aix in France.
Mariana Santos Coda, a business student at PUCRS, completed part of her undergraduate degree at Northeastern Illinois University in the United States through this program. She described her exchange experience in Chicago as enriching, particularly because it allowed her to meet and interact with people from diverse cultural backgrounds.
Mariana expressed confidence that this international experience would positively impact her academic and professional future by expanding her worldview and strengthening her network.
To participate in the program, students must meet the following requirements: be enrolled in an on-campus undergraduate course at PUCRS and register for at least 12 credits during the mobility semester; have completed between 15% and 80% of their degree program; have no graduation scheduled during the mobility semester or shortly after returning; maintain a minimum GPA of 7.0 with no more than three failed courses; be at least 18 years old by the application deadline; and demonstrate sufficient proficiency in the host country’s language as required by the partner institution.
Further details about the program, partner universities, and available positions can be found on the official PUCRS website.
