in Working overseas, study abroad tips

Many international students are interested in studying in Singapore, but also want to know whether they can work while studying. The short answer is yes, you can work in Singapore with a student visa, but there are certain conditions that you need to meet. In this article, we’ll explore the rules and regulations around working in Singapore with a student visa.

  • Part-Time Work

International students in Singapore are allowed to work part-time for up to 16 hours per week during the academic term and full-time during school breaks. However, there are some conditions that you need to meet in order to work legally in Singapore.

Firstly, you need to be enrolled in a full-time course at a registered institution. This means that you need to be studying at least 30 hours per week in order to be eligible to work part-time.

Secondly, you need to obtain a Letter of Endorsement (LOE) from your educational institution before you can start working. The LOE confirms that you are a registered student and that you are eligible to work part-time.

Thirdly, you need to have a valid Student Pass issued by the Singapore Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA). Your Student Pass will include a condition that allows you to work part-time.

  • Full-Time Work

If you want to work full-time in Singapore, you’ll need to apply for a work visa. The most common work visa for international students is the Employment Pass (EP), which is issued by the Ministry of Manpower (MOM).

To be eligible for an EP, you need to have a job offer from a Singaporean employer. The job offer should be for a position that is related to your field of study, and the employer should apply for the EP on your behalf.

It’s important to note that getting an EP can be difficult, and the eligibility criteria are strict. You’ll need to have a good academic record, relevant work experience, and a high salary in order to be considered.

In conclusion, international students in Singapore are allowed to work part-time while studying, but there are certain conditions that need to be met. If you want to work full-time, you’ll need to apply for a work visa, which can be difficult to obtain. It’s important to check the rules and regulations around working in Singapore with a student visa, and to make sure that you’re eligible before applying for any jobs.
