Maximo Londonio, a 42-year-old green card holder who immigrated to the United States from the Philippines at the age of 12, was detained by immigration agents on Thursday at Seattle–Tacoma International Airport as he returned from a family vacation. This was announced by the community group Tanggol Migrante Network WA during a news conference on Monday.
The group is supporting Londonio’s wife, Crystal Londonio, in her efforts to resolve his case. Crystal expressed deep frustration and sorrow, stating, “Four days is too long. The lack of accountability by the United States Customs and Border Protection is failing him right now. I’m a U.S. citizen, you failed me.”
Customs and Border Protection (CBP) had not responded to requests for comment by Tuesday.
According to Tanggol Migrante Network WA, Maximo Londonio, a father of three residing in Olympia, has traveled between the U.S. and the Philippines multiple times without issue prior to this incident. The group suspects that his detention may be linked to nonviolent convictions from his youth.
Crystal Londonio described her husband as “hard-working,” “family-oriented,” and “loving,” emphasizing that he has always been willing to go above and beyond. She added, “He’s not violent. I just want somebody to go the extra mile for him,” and voiced concern over the lack of information about his well-being since the detention.
Londonio’s case occurs amid the ongoing mass deportation efforts initiated by former President Donald Trump’s administration. Among others affected is Kilmar Abrego Garcia from Maryland, who was arrested and deported to El Salvador earlier this year following allegations of gang affiliation.
