3. St. Petersburg State University is ranked 13th in the BRIC countries and currently 240th in the world.

St. Petersburg State University is the oldest high quality university in Russia, founded by Peter the Great in 1724 as the St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences.

In its nearly three centuries of existence, the university has produced nine Nobel laureates and political and business figures such as current Russian President Vladimir Putin.

St Petersburg State University is ranked among the top 150 in the world for linguistics, mathematics, history, modern languages, philosophy, physics and astronomy.

4. Tomsk State University (TSU), located in Siberia, is ranked 26th in the BRIC countries this year.

Ranked 323rd in the world, Tomsk State University is one of the oldest universities in Russia, having been founded in 1878.

Tomsk State University actively engages in international exchanges and cooperation, and maintains long-term partnerships with more than 90 universities around the world. It also offers courses taught in English.

So far, Tomsk State University ranks among the top 300 universities in subjects such as physics, astronomy and modern languages.

5. Moscow State University of Physics and Technology (MIPT) Founded in 1951, the Moscow State University of Physics and Technology (MIPT) is ranked 28th in the BRIC countries and 355th globally, and was granted State research University status by the Russian government in 2009.

MIPT’s faculty and alumni include a number of Nobel Prize winners, astronauts, scientists and other political and business luminaries.

MIPT is currently ranked among the top 50 in the world for physics and astronomy, and the top 450 in five other disciplines.

6. Bowman Moscow State Technical University (BMSTU) is ranked 33rd in BRIC countries and 291st in the latest world rankings.

The oldest Russian technical university of size, BMSTU receives faculty/student ratio from the entire BRICS ranking.

In addition to maintaining links with more than 70 international universities, the BMSTU works closely with industrial, scientific, educational and cultural institutions.

7. The Moscow Institute of Engineering Physics (MEPhI) is ranked 35th in BRICS countries and 373rd in the world.

Founded in 1942 as the Moscow Institute of Mechanical and Ammunition, the Moscow Institute of Engineering Physics now has 21 campuses in 20 Russian cities outside Moscow, with a total student population of more than 38,000.

The Moscow School of Engineering Physics is currently ranked among the top 100 in the world for physics and astronomy, and among the top 400 for electrical engineering and mathematics.

8. Russia’s Higher University of Economic Research is ranked 39th among BRICS countries and 382nd in the world.

The youngest of the top ten universities in Russia (founded in 1992), the Higher University of Economic Research has about 31,900 students, mainly located in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod and Perm.

Russia’s Higher University of Economic Research offers a range of courses taught in English, which international students can study for free through government scholarships.

The Higher University of Economic Research in Russia is currently ranked among the top 100 universities in economics, sociology and political science.

9, Moscow State Institute of International Relations Moscow State Institute of International Relations is one of the universities of Russia show, founded in 1944, is a specialized training of talents in international relations professional college, enjoys a high reputation in Russia.

The university is part of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation and is the pride of the children of Russia’s modern elite.

Many senior Russian translators in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have also graduated from or studied at the institute, which ranks 40th among BRICS countries and 373rd in the world.

The university has been called “Russia’s Harvard” because it has trained many of Russia’s political, economic and intellectual elite.

10. Tomsk University of Technology Founded in 1896, Tomsk University of Technology is one of the oldest institutions of higher learning in Russia. It has trained more than 130,000 experts of all kinds, including more than 500 academicians and winners of the National High Quality Medal.

The University has 22 doctoral stations, which train undergraduates in 111 specialties, masters in 22 specialties and doctors in 97 specialties.

It ranks 49th in the BRIC countries and 386th in the world.

TPU has the third highest proportion of international students, with 26 per cent of its 14,100 students coming from outside Russia.
