What are the requirements for applying for public relations majors in American universities

The United States has always been one of the first choice for international students. Public relations major is a discipline about how to maintain the public image and how to communicate with an organization or individual. The requirements for applying for this major are not very strict.

What background requirement is to apply for public relations major of American UNIVERSITY: THE application student does not NEED to HAVE professional background, some language major, literature major, media major can transfer public relations.

But an applicant’s interest in the subject is inevitable.

Practical experience can be a criterion for applicants who are enthusiastic about the profession.

And many universities in the United States generally prefer some applicants with relevant work or internship experience.

On the basis of electing some public relations courses, students can practice in some public relations agencies, public relations companies or the public relations department of a company in vacation time to understand the basic process of public relations work.

For on-the-job applicants, if their work is not related to public relations, it is also strongly recommended that they have the opportunity to transfer to some public relations departments for practical work, so as to accumulate certain public relations experience, and it will also be very direct help for the application.

Public Relations major in the United States: Hard requirements: This major for GT performance is undoubtedly an important factor in the school assessment of applicants.

PR major has a high requirement for students’ language ability. IBT scores are generally required to be above 100 points, and IELTS scores are better than 7 points. For GRE, math requirements are not high, and the old GRE scores are above 500 points.

However, the requirement for the part of verbal is relatively high. The old GRE will require more than 500 points, and the new GRE will require more than 150 points.

For example, USC, a top 10 public relations program, requires TOEFL IBT applicants to be around 114-115.

Soft conditions: Many universities in the United States generally prefer applicants who have some relevant work or internship experience.

For on-the-job applicants, if their work is not related to public relations, it is also strongly recommended that they have the opportunity to transfer to some public relations departments for practical work, so as to accumulate certain public relations experience, and it will also be very direct help for the application.

The application materials of public relations major do not have any special requirements, but because this major has high requirements for language ability and writing ability, so when writing a personal statement, rich language expression ability and good personal background description will be of great help to the application.

Of course, some schools will have special requirements. For example, Boston University will require students to shoot a three-minute DV short film, which is difficult, but it will play a very important role if it is well used.

University of Southern California PR is called Strategic Public Relations.

Its basic courses include PUBLIC RELATIONS RESEARCH and evaluation, Introduction to STRATEGIC PUBLIC RELATIONS, Strategic PUBLIC RELATIONS Management, PUBLIC RELATIONS case discussion, public relations writing, etc.

From the perspective of curriculum design, this PR course in Southern California can enable students to learn solutions to many public relations problems encountered in practice.

Public Relations & Corporate Communications at New York University has two subdivisions.

public relations management and organizational communications.

The former is for external public relations management, the latter is for internal public relations management.

If you are a public relations major and have learned a lot of basic courses related to public relations and want to further your study in a certain research field in the postgraduate stage, NYU is worth considering. 3 Boston University The required courses in Boston University are designed flexibly, and students can choose the required courses according to their own preferences.

There are writing classes for international students, given that they are not native English speakers.

The course mainly teaches the basic theories and research methods of communication, and rarely teaches the theories of the professional branch of PR.

It can be seen that the PR major of BU pays attention to students’ basic theories of communication.

University of Miami The University of Miami focuses on public relations and advertising. There are many courses on advertising, such as international advertising and Public relations, integrated advertising media, advertising management, etc.

This major also involves the management of public relations for non-profit organizations and government agencies in the form of seminars.

Purdue University’s Public Relations and Issue Management program is a combination of theory and practice.

It not only focuses on the study of theoretical knowledge, such as media theory and research courses, but also focuses on the training of students’ ability to analyze and solve practical problems, mainly related to politics, international relations management, public health, environmental pollution, crisis management and so on.
