Stephanie Rivera, a fourth-year student majoring in journalism and international affairs, recently embarked on a transformative journey to Costa Rica, immersing herself in the rich tapestry of biodiversity and cultural heritage that defines the region.
Departing from the familiar landscapes of Cincinnati, Rivera’s sojourn in Costa Rica epitomizes UC’s commitment to providing students with immersive learning experiences beyond the confines of traditional classrooms. The College of Arts & Sciences (A&S) at UC has long championed the cause of study abroad and experiential learning, recognizing the profound impact such ventures can have on students’ academic and personal growth.
At UC, study abroad programs are viewed as catalysts for holistic development, offering students the opportunity to not only expand their academic horizons but also delve into new interests and passions. Whether it’s mastering a new language, unraveling the intricacies of art and history, or conducting groundbreaking research in an international setting, students are encouraged to tailor their study abroad experiences to align with their unique aspirations.
Reflecting on her time in Costa Rica, Rivera remarks, “In college I really lost myself. Studying abroad in Costa Rica helped me to see the colors in life again and see how beautiful it can truly be. I got to spend a lot of time with myself so I got to know my strengths and weaknesses – I got to know who I am as a person and what I wanted out of my life.”
