The UK is a popular destination for international students looking to pursue higher education. Once you have completed your studies in the UK, you may be eligible to stay in the country for a certain period of time based on your visa type and eligibility criteria. In this article, we will explore the various visa options available for international students after completing their studies in the UK, as well as the eligibility requirements for each visa.

Tier 2 (General) Visa:

The Tier 2 (General) Visa is a work visa that allows foreign nationals who have been offered a skilled job in the UK to work in the country for up to five years. International students who have completed a degree-level course or above from a recognised UK institution are eligible to apply for this visa. The employer must hold a valid Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) from the UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) and meet the minimum salary threshold requirements.

Tier 5 (Youth Mobility Scheme) Visa:

The Tier 5 (Youth Mobility Scheme) Visa is designed for young individuals from participating countries who wish to experience living and working in the UK. This visa allows international students who have completed their studies in the UK to stay in the country for up to two years to work or undertake self-employment. The Youth Mobility Scheme is only available for individuals aged between 18 and 30 years old and is subject to strict eligibility criteria.

Tier 4 (General) Student Visa Extension:

If you are an international student studying at a UK institution and would like to extend your stay in the UK after your studies, you may be eligible to apply for a Tier 4 (General) Student Visa Extension. This visa allows you to remain in the UK for up to six months after you have completed your course to find employment, set up a business, or gain work experience. You must have successfully completed a degree-level or above course from a recognised UK institution to be eligible for this visa.

Graduate Route Visa:

The Graduate Route Visa is a new post-study work visa that was introduced in 2021. This visa allows international students who have completed their studies in the UK to stay in the country for up to two years to work or look for work at any skill level. The Graduate Route is available to all international students who have completed a degree-level or above course from a recognised UK institution, provided they meet the eligibility criteria, including English language requirements and financial sustainability requirements.

Conclusion:

There are several visa options available for international students who wish to stay in the UK after completing their studies. Each visa has its own eligibility criteria and specific requirements, so it is essential to research and understand the visas to determine which one best suits your needs. It is important to note that applying for a visa can be a complex process, so seeking advice from an immigration specialist is highly recommended to ensure a smooth and successful application process.
