The Indian Institute of Petroleum and Energy (IIPE) has announced the introduction of several new academic and research initiatives for the 2025–26 academic year, including a dedicated PhD program for international students. The move is part of a broader effort to expand IIPE’s interdisciplinary approach to energy research and global academic engagement.
The institute will launch new undergraduate and postgraduate degree programs in Mathematics & Computer Science (BTech) and Petroleum Engineering (MTech), respectively. In addition to these academic offerings, IIPE will roll out a global internship initiative, allowing foreign students to participate in research and internship opportunities at the institute. The program will be 75% funded by the institution, with students covering the remaining 25%.
IIPE will also introduce a postdoctoral fellowship program focused on advancing research in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). The new fellowship aims to support emerging researchers working on high-level projects that may result in patents, publications, and novel contributions to the field.
“The postdoctoral initiative is a strategic step towards fostering innovation and excellence in research,” said Prof. P.K. Banik, Chair of the IIPE Governing Council. “We expect fellows to contribute to knowledge generation, publish in reputed international journals, and emerge as future faculty and industry leaders.”
Prof. Banik emphasized the importance of international collaboration, particularly in doctoral studies. “While this program is rooted in India, we recognize the immense value that international scholars bring. Their diverse academic paths enrich our intellectual ecosystem and ensure that our research resonates globally.”
IIPE Director Prof. Shalivahan Srivastava highlighted that the institute already runs a two-month summer internship program for Indian students and is now preparing to expand this opportunity to global applicants. “Initially, we will select around two international students for the global internship program. As we refine the process, we expect to welcome four to five top candidates in future cycles,” he said.
These developments reflect IIPE’s commitment to building a globally engaged academic environment that supports innovation, fosters collaboration, and prepares the next generation of energy sector leaders.
