What are the main categories of graduate scholarships in the United States? There are five major categories

American graduate scholarships are mainly divided into five categories: Fellowship, Scholarship, Teaching Assistantship, Research Assistantship, Tuition waive.

Today, I will introduce to you what kinds of scholarships are available for graduate students in the United States. If you are interested in this topic, please click here.

Let’s take a look at the types of scholarships available at the graduate level.

Different from undergraduate students, scholarships for American graduate students are generally divided into five categories, which are: 1. Fellowship: the largest amount and the most difficult to apply for!

Fellowships granted by colleges exempt students from tuition and miscellaneous fees, housing, insurance, and books. They also provide a certain amount of living expenses.

In other words, with this application, graduate school is almost free of charge.

However, the competition for the Fellowship is fierce and demanding!

Making an application will have an impact on admission.

The admissions committee reviews your GPA, TOEFL /GRE, letters of recommendation, transcripts, and so on. Unless you’re really good, you’re probably not going to get the scholarship.

2. Scholarship: Various schools have many forms of scholarship, and you can apply for multiple scholarships at the same time.

But the amounts are usually small, in the range of a few thousand dollars a year.

3. Teaching Assistantship: Teaching assistantship is usually issued by the department and the weekly working time depends on the specific situation, usually ranging from 10 to 20 hours per week.

A stipend or tuition waiver is usually available as a graduate teaching assistant.

The details vary depending on the school and the program.

Basically, many students receive stipends and/or tuition waivers of about $6,000 to $20,000 per year.

At some colleges you may even qualify for additional benefits, such as insurance.

The responsibilities of teaching assistants vary from school to school and subject to subject. Basically, they are responsible for: 1.

Teach or assist in teaching one or more courses 2. Organization and operation of laboratory meetings 3.

4. Research Assistantship: RA is assistantship, which means to help the tutor do an experiment, analyze data, etc., so assistantship is more popular among science and engineering students.

Students work as “assistants” in exchange for tuition waivers/grants.

Students who receive research assistantships will be assigned to laboratory work with faculty members.

The advisor may or may not be your mentor.

The responsibilities of research assistants vary by discipline and laboratory, but basically include the following: 1. Data collection, input, and analysis 2.

Literature review and other library work 3. Report writing 4. Copying, filing and sorting 5.

2. Tuition waive, if you’re accepted by the university, you’ll get no tuition, or at least half of your tuition. Tuition waive notices usually come with the offer.

So, if you are accepted by the school with an award, you will receive an Offer from the school.

If you are admitted without scholarship, you are admitted.

In fact, in addition to these kinds of scholarships, there is another kind of scholarship, that is, the scholarship is not provided by the school, but by some cooperative enterprises or foundations to provide the scholarship.

In addition, schools generally support students to actively search for external scholarship resources. For example, Columbia Business School MBA program: If you want to apply for American university scholarship, in addition to improving your own strength, you should pay attention to some points when applying.

For Chinese applicants, few of them get awards for master’s degree applications, while a high proportion of them get scholarships for PhD applications. Moreover, there are very few fellowships, which are basically TA or RA.

It is recommended that students carefully analyze the scholarship policies for international students at American colleges and universities before applying, and make a distinction between scholarship offers for each major.

2. Comprehensively improve their own strength to improve their own strength is mainly divided into two parts.

One is to improve their hard skills, such as GPA and test scores.

Second, improve their soft power, such as scientific research strength, internship and so on.

3. First of all, it is important to realize that some majors are difficult to apply for scholarships, such as MBA, law, liberal arts, etc.

Relatively speaking, the proportion of scholarships for science and engineering is higher.

Secondly, when choosing a school, we must look clearly at the school requirements.

In addition, you should choose professors who share your research interests.

4. Optimization of application materials A personal statement is the most important part of the application materials. Applicants should use a limited number of words to describe their academic background, study plans, major areas and future plans.

Recommendation letters from supervisors are also an important way for professors to objectively understand students’ strengths and weaknesses, which can be more convincing than students’ self-praise.

In addition, the students’ related activities, internship, scientific research ability, these are also the key to the success of applying for scholarships.

5. Applying for a scholarship requires not only competitive strength, but also skills, that is, magnetic sets.

It’s important to note that many people understand this as contacting the professor before formally applying for an oral offer.

In fact, if you do not receive a scholarship or the number of scholarships is low after admission, you can also use the magnetic package to obtain adjustment.

In addition, TA (teaching assistant) and RA (research assistant) scholarships are more likely to be successfully applied through the method of magnetic set.

All in all, we should give full play to our advantages and choose the most suitable and satisfying scholarship according to our own conditions.

A large amount is good, of course. A small amount can add up to a large amount
