How to get pr in UK after study

in study abroad, study abroad tips

After completing their studies in the UK, many international students wish to stay on and work in the country. However, this can be a challenging process, particularly when it comes to acquiring the right to remain in the country through obtaining a UK Permanent Residency (PR). In this article, we will explore how to obtain PR in the UK after studying.

Section 1: Understanding the UK’s Immigration System

The first thing to understand when seeking PR in the UK is the immigration system. The UK’s immigration system is based on a points-based system that applies to non-European Union (EU) nationals. The points are awarded according to various criteria, including education, work experience, language ability, and age.

Section 2: Eligibility Criteria for a UK Permanent Residency

To obtain PR in the UK, you must meet certain eligibility criteria. These include:

1.Length of residence:

You must have lived in the UK for at least five years before applying for PR.

2.Financial stability:

You must be able to support yourself without relying on public funds.

3.No criminal record:

You must not have any criminal convictions.

4.English language proficiency:

You must be able to speak, read, write and understand English.

5.Passing the Life in the UK test:

You must pass the Life in the UK test, which assesses your knowledge of British customs, traditions, and history.

Section 3: Applying for a UK Permanent Residency

Once you have met the eligibility criteria, you can apply for PR in the UK. The application process involves filling out an application form, paying a fee, and providing supporting evidence of your eligibility.

You should also provide evidence of your ties to the UK, such as proof of employment or self-employment, a rental agreement or property ownership, and evidence of family ties in the UK.

It is essential to note that the application process for PR in the UK can be complex and time-consuming. Therefore, it is advisable to seek the services of an immigration lawyer or a reputable immigration consultancy firm.

Section 4: Other Options for Staying in the UK

If you are unable to meet the criteria for PR, there are other options for staying in the UK after completing your studies. These include:

1.Tier 2 work visa:

If you have a job offer from a UK employer, you may be able to apply for a Tier 2 work visa. This visa allows you to work in the UK for up to five years and can be extended.

2.Tier 1 entrepreneur visa:

If you have a business idea and sufficient funds, you may be able to apply for a Tier 1 entrepreneur visa, which allows you to start and run a business in the UK.

3.Tier 5 youth mobility scheme:

If you are between 18 and 30 years old, you may be eligible to apply for a Tier 5 youth mobility scheme visa, which allows you to live and work in the UK for up to two years.

Conclusion

Obtaining PR in the UK after studying can be a challenging process, but it is possible if you meet the eligibility criteria. It is essential to understand the UK’s immigration system, including the points-based system, and to seek the advice of an immigration lawyer or consultant when applying for PR. If you are unable to meet the criteria for PR, there are other options for staying in the UK, such as the Tier 2 work visa, Tier 1 entrepreneur visa, and Tier 5 youth mobility scheme.
